Its been nearly five years in the making but things are finally coming together for the full-length feature adaptation of Jay Baruchel and Seth Rogen’s viral comedy short Jay And Seth Vs. The Apocalypse, which featured the two as degenerate roommates living in squalor during an apocalypse. Soon after the short landed online, Mandate Pictures jumped on board for the full-length version and, since then, things have only evolved further with Jonah Hill, James Franco, Craig Robinson, Danny McBride and Aziz Ansari all confirmed as fellow survivors in what will be Rogen and producing/writing partner Evan Goldberg’s directorial debut. The film now looks to have settled on a new title with the previously shortened moniker The Apocalypse. replaced by The End Of The World, according to BoxOfficeMojo. The film’s plot itself has changed over time as well with the apocalypse now hitting during a party at Franco’s house and we expect more actors/comedians associated with the Apatow Mafia surely showing up. Baruchel also previously noted they plan to have “a lot of famous people in Los Angeles, I want a bunch of cameos, but I just want them to be corpses. I want them to be like ‘Oh god there’s Will Smith’s dead body in the corner!’ ” 100 or so minutes of improvised riff-raff between these actors with the apocalypse in the distant background? Sold. A June 14, 2013 theatrical release has already been set for the film. (Source) |

With Parks and Recreation on hiatus, now is the time for its stars to find movie projects to make. And that’s exactly what Aziz Ansari has done by joining the cast of The Apocalypse. In an interview with Grantland.com, Ansari revealed that he has been cast in the ensemble comedy, which will be the directorial debuts of both Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (who also wrote the script). Also attached are James Franco, Jay Baruchel, Jonah Hill, Craig Robinson, and Danny McBride. All of the actors, including Rogen, will be playing themselves in the movie as they get together for a party at Franco’s house. Then the apocalypse begins. That movie is scheduled to begin soon down in New Orleans. Previous reports have put the film’s budget in the $30 to $40 million range and Sony is set to distribute it. The idea for the feature came from a project that Rogen and Baruchel did together a few years ago. Titled Jay and Seth vs. The Apocalypse, the movie was actually a fake trailer about Jay Baruchel and Seth Rogen living together after the biblical end of days has occurred. The short film made it looks like the comedy will entirely be set in one location and have all of the characters fighting with each other a la Roman Polanski’s Carnage. It’s unknown if the feature film will maintain the same format or will expand it. (Source) |

The end is coming…and it’s going to be hilarious. It seems that the end of the world just isn’t the domain for ponderous filmmakers with comedies now taking a crack at the demise of humanity. Seth Rogen and Jay Baruchel’s The Apocalypse has been stamped with a June 14, 2013 release date. This bit of news popped up on Box Office Mojo last night simply as Seth Rogen/Jonah Hill Untitled Comedy but we confirmed with Sony that the film is indeed The Apocalypse. Based on Rogen and Baruchel’s 2007 short Jay and Seth Vs The Apocolapyse, they are lining up a number of their pals — Hill and James Franco (playing themselves), Danny McBride, Craig Robinson and probably a ton of cameos — to tell the story that will apparently take place in Franco’s apartment as the world ends. Rogen and longtime writing and producing partner Evan Goldberg will make their directorial debut on the picture. Filming gets underway later this spring. (Source) |
