The summer hit, Pineapple Express is released on DVD and Blu-Ray Disc tomorrow (Jan. 6th, 2009). But when you flock to the store to purchase yourself a copy, keep in mind there is a two-disc set as well.
Seth Rogen and James Franco take the high road as potheads on the lam in this action comedy hit. Rogen’s a stoner who witnesses a murder and winds up running from a crime gang that targets him and his clueless marijuana dealer (Franco). The movie is available in single-disc and two-disc DVD releases and on Blu-ray, with extended and alternate footage, a making-of segment and commentary with producer Judd Apatow and Rogen, who also co-wrote the screenplay. The two-disc DVD set and Blu-ray disc have both the R-rated theatrical release and an unrated extended version, along with a digital copy of the movie for portable video players. Other extras on the Blu-ray and two-disc DVD set include deleted scenes and about a dozen behind-the-scenes segments. Single-disc DVD, $28.96; two-disc DVD set, $34.95; Blu-ray, $39.95. (Sony)
'MONSTERS VS. ALIENS' SNEAK PEAK TO AIR DURING SUPERBOWL
According to new reports, DreamWorks is spending tens of millions of dollars to promote the animated movie Monsters vs. Aliens during this year's Super Bowl.
A three-minute 'sneak peek' of the flick is scheduled to air during the big game ... in 3D!!
Monsters vs. Aliens follows a group of 'Earthling' monsters who are out to save the world following an alien invasion and it features the voices of Reese Witherspoon, Seth Rogen and Kiefer Sutherland.
There will be 150 million 3D glasses distributed free at Pepsi/SoBe Life Water displays at 28,000 locations including grocery, drug and electronics stores and big-box retailers (ie. Wal Mart, Target).
DreamWorks' Animation chief executive Jeffrey Katzenberg called the stunt "perhaps the biggest media-advertising event in history." He also promised that the quality of the 3D will be superior to what has been done in the past. The glasses will use Intel InTru 3D and ColorCode 3-D, which updates the old red-blue Anaglyph system.
The technology will also allow those without the glasses to see an almost ordinary image on the TV screen.
"Zack and Miri Make a Porno" is set to be released on dvd and Blu-ray disc Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009. Reports are saying a 2-disc collectors set will be released as well. More information to come when available.
'THE GREEN HORNET' CHANGES: STEPHEN CHOW NOT DIRECTING
There's been another change in The Green Hornet: Stephen Chow has dropped out as director of "The Green Hornet" but will still play Kato in Columbia Pictures' latest bid to get the crimefighter to the bigscreen. The studio and producer Neal Moritz are in the process of setting a new director to keep the picture on track to begin production by spring.
The character began on radio in the 1930s and is best known from the '60s TV version. But a bigscreen translation is having a long gestation, going through many incarnations, including as a proposed George Clooney vehicle.
Chow, who directed and starred in "Kung Fu Hustle" and "Shaolin Soccer," signed in September to direct the film and play the role originated in the TV series by Bruce Lee. He stepped out as director over creative differences.
The film was scripted by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, and Rogen is starring as the masked crime fighter. The script will likely be polished, and a director could be in place by year's end.
For a while there it looked like Kevin James and Seth Rogen's comedy careers were somehow headed in the same direction. Both were working on movies in which they played mall security guards, and even though James's was given the obvious title Paul Blart: Mall Cop and Rogen's was the more subtly sardonic Observe and Report, they sounded kinda like the same movie.
But with Paul Blart coming out in the wastelands of mid-January, and Rogen talking about his project, the differences are becoming clear. In fact, Observe and Report may turn out to be different from anything else, ever. "To me it's a marvel that a studio let us make that movie," Rogen told Collider. "You watch it in a theatre and people go crazy. It's an insane movie. You see people looking at each other going 'What the hell? How did they get away with this?' "
Apparently there had been rumors going around that a less raunchy, or less insane, or some lesser version of the movie would be released after the studio panicked, but Rogen says it's not true. "I can't think of one thing really that they made us change that we didn't want to. They've let us do it. It's crazy. It's happened."
