How far do you dare push the envelope of comedy? Seth Rogen gives Borat some competition as he takes it to the limit in Observe and Report, which earns its R-rating for profanity, memorable male frontal nudity and in-your-face violence. Seth isn’t apologizing for going for laughs in low places or letting the fun take a dark turn. Q: How come the girls keep their clothes on, but there’s an endless chase scene through the mall in which a flasher let’s it all hang out? A: The reason we don’t have bare breasts in our movie is that they don’t get laughs. I think American Pie was the last movie to have boobs and laughter in the same scene. Now it’s all about penises. Breasts are out and the male organ is in. And when you saw my naked butt in Knocked Up, I knew that would get a laugh because it sometimes gets me laughs in real life. Q: What was it like to chase a naked guy through a mall? A: Bizarre. Between takes there was a lot of time with me and him just standing there, being like, ‘What the hell are we doing, man? This is insane. It’s so weird.’ Then they’d say, ‘Action.’ and he’d do a Batmanesque move and throw his trench coat open like a cape and expose himself. Q: Speaking of exposure, you have a few steamy bedroom scenes with Amy Faris, and you’re looking buff. What’s your secret? A: It’s a tapeworm. You don’t believe that? How about bulimia? What you see is not muscle. I can kind of shape my fat to look like muscle. That’s one of my real acting skills. Q: Word is you did a lot of your own stunts. A: I’m like a paunchy Jew. If I can make it look possible, well then what are the stunt guys getting paid for? If I can throw a punch then Mel Gibson’s not that impressive. So when it came to a lot of the action, I figured why not just go for it? Q: Did you connect with a guy who’s fed up with the world and the hand that he’s been dealt? A: I think we all have those ‘I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore’ moments. We watched movies like Network, Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy where the characters have bleak outlooks on the world and just want to do something to change it. Those are some of my favorite movies and they don’t make them anymore. Q: Ever wonder if you’re going too far to be funny? A: I think if it gets a laugh, then no. Nowhere on my radar is the thought, ‘Is this movie good for society?’ To me, if it’s funny, it’s good for society. If it’s not funny, it’s bad for society. I think it was funny. It’s a movie. It’s supposed to entertain people. We keep on pushing and we haven’t hit that limit so it’s working so far. I think major studios are acknowledging that people like this stuff. Just because it’s not necessarily safe or easy to categorize, doesn’t mean people won’t go see it. What always shocks me when we do these test screenings is that, generally, women like it more than men, which is never what I would imagine.

Seth Rogen is relieved his promotional duties for animated film Monsters Vs. Aliens are over – because he no longer has to hide his hatred of children. The 26-year-old comedian cringes at the thought of having his own kids, and admits he wasn’t impressed when his adult fans started bringing their tots to his movie screenings and meet-and-greets – because he can’t relate to them. The new movie debuted atop the U.S. box office last weekend with earnings of $59.3 million, and Rogen is breathing a sigh of relief – because he can finally declare his disdain for youngsters. He muses, “Kids like me but when they meet me they’re horrified by me… These guys bring their kids (to screenings) and I kind of resent them. To me it’s kind of a sacrilegious thing and the kid would cry. It was horrible…” “Now that the movie’s out and I don’t have to promote it anymore, I can say that I hate children. It’s out; it’s made $60 million. I can say it: I hate kids. If no kid ever came up to me, I would be more than happy.”

Comedy star Seth Rogen has reportedly said he wasn’t happy to hear about Harrison Ford’s marriage proposal to Calista Flockhart. According to Us Weekly, the ‘Knocked Up’ actor said that Ford’s decision to propose to long-term girlfriend Flockhart had put pressure on him to propose to his own girlfriend. Rogen said: “They were my couple. I was like, ‘They’re not engaged, they are just happy to be together’.”

Here’s the skinny on The Green Hornet, Seth Rogen’s first foray into superhero action. Yes, the movie, an adaptation of the pulp fiction crime-fighter who vanquished fiends alongside his kung-fu-kicking chauffeur Kato, will shoot this year for a summer 2010 release. Yes, French filmmaker Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) is directing. And yes, the movie’s extensive action sequences inspired Rogen to shed his extra poundage. Ever since the project — which Rogen penned with his Superbad co-writer Evan Goldberg — was announced, it has been besieged by questions regarding its tone, style and content. Namely, will it be a spoof of the genre? Could it possibly be a pedal-to-the-metal action flick? Or, like last summer’s Pineapple Express, a marriage of both? Rogen suggests the third option. “Action and comedy aren’t mutually exclusive. I think you can have a big action epic with a bunch of funny parts. I saw the early Indiana Jones movies in the theatre and they killed. There are laughs all the way through the whole thing, but it doesn’t feel like a comedy per se. It’s just trying to elicit reactions from the audience. We think of movies like True Lies and that’s more what we’re going for with this.” Source: WinnipegSun.Com

Seth Rogen has done funny, done animation and done brainless, but he had to do it all together for the 3-D film “Monsters vs. Aliens.” He voiced a quick-to-laugh animated blob who literally has no brain, but does have romantic stirrings for a plate of green molded Jell-O, and a fondness for a world that needs saving. Here’s what Rogen, an actor, writer and producer on films such as “Superbad,” “Knocked Up” and “Kung Fu Panda,” had to say about working on “Monsters vs. Aliens,” which also features the voices of Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd, Hugh Laurie, Stephen Colbert, Kiefer Sutherland and Rainn Wilson:Q: How is preparing and creating the character different for a film when it’s using only your voice?A: It can be difficult when you’re just alone in a room with no other actors, without your own physicality to aid you. This one was easiest for me to get into. It was a clear joke. Physically, the animators were doing so much funny stuff with him. The good thing about animation is that you can experiment as you go along. The more I went in, the more I got what was funny about it. He was always dumb

Seth Rogen has range. After watching him as a deranged mall security guard in Jody Hill’s brilliant “Observe and Report” the night before (and I mean brilliant — dark, subversive brilliance — I’ll talk about that more in a couple of weeks) and then as a gelatinous blob (named B.O.B.) in the 3-D animated adventure “Monsters vs. Aliens,” I had to inform him of this fact. “Thank you!” he says, “Finally, someone says it.” He laughs. But then everyone in “Monsters vs. Aliens” exhibits either range or the right spirit in playing, as the title states, monsters and aliens and, in some cases, humans. Reese Witherspoon centers the story (quite largely), as sweet, Modesto-living Susan Murphy, who just wants to marry her weatherman fianc

This week, he teams with Reese Witherspoon, Will Arnett and Keifer Sutherland for the 3-D cartoon comedy “Monsters Vs. Aliens.” But when we caught up with Rogen recently, the “Knocked Up” funnyman insisted he wasn’t making so many cartoons because he had a master plan or because it was easy money. “Honestly, I just like being in these movies
